Head of the Entertainment newsdesk (remote)
WHAT TO DO:

  • Source trending and breaking local and international news for 4 writers daily (Monday to Friday).
  • Identify and assign special format articles such as interviews and features. 
  • Create a content strategy and stick to it. 
  • Be responsible for the desk’s discipline, page views, make sure KPIs are met, check writers’ work quality and ensure the news is covered fast.
  • Write 5 articles a day (a mix of original, exclusive and re-written / aggregated news).
  • Source multi-media to accompany your own articles. 
  • Source images to accompany your own articles using our tools. 
  • Publish your own articles on the CMS. 
  • Post your own articles on Facebook.
REQUIREMENTS:

  • A qualification in journalism and previous writing experience;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Natural leadership skills;
  • Independence and dedication as this is a home-based position;
  • Expertise in local & global entertainment and celebrity news affairs;
  • Contacts within the local entertainment industry would be an advantage;
  • Ability to identify story angles and ideas;
  • A good laptop/PC (at least Intel 3);
  • Good, stable and reliable internet connection (uncapped, with a line speed of at least 4MBps). Cellphone data is not acceptable.
